Hinjewadi: ₹426 Crore Infra Plan Approved After Massive Protest
Over 5,000 IT professionals and residents staged a silent protest at Hinjewadi on September 6, demanding urgent action on crumbling roads, traffic congestion, and poor civic amenities. The protest began at Infosys Circle in Phase 1 and was led by the Forum of IT Employees (FITE).
Days later, District Collector Jitendra Dudi announced that ₹426 crore has been approved for infrastructure work in the Hinjewadi IT Park area. The funds will be used to improve existing roads, construct pathways, provide last-mile connectivity with the Metro, and improve storm-water drains.
Dudi, who heads the special task force appointed by the state government, has set a deadline of one and a half years for completing all infrastructure work. Priority works are expected to be finished before next monsoon.
What’s Planned for Hinjewadi:
• Six new parallel roads to reduce traffic pressure at Bhujbal, Laxmi and Hinjewadi junctions
• 60 km of drainage network, footpaths, and streetlights to be developed over 18 months
• 100 Maharashtra Security Force personnel to be deployed for traffic management
• Water from Pawna Dam through a Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran scheme to address water shortage
Residents in these Pune Local Areas, however, remain cautious. FITE has warned of fresh agitation if there is no visible improvement within three months.
Charholi: 10,000 Residents Dependent on a Single Road
In one of the most affected Pune Local Areas, over 10,000 residents of eight housing societies in Charholi’s Pride World City township, daily commuting has become an ordeal. The township depends on a single access road to reach PMC limits, which passes through a narrow private road before merging onto the already congested Porwal Road.
Residents say the road has become a bottleneck, especially during school hours when buses and PMPML vehicles lock up the narrow stretch. “If that private road is closed even for a day, more than 10,000 people would be as good as isolated,” said IT professional Dhananjay Deshmukh.
A parallel road to Porwal Road was acquired nearly three months ago, but no work has started. Residents are demanding that PCMC open and integrate several internal roads into a proper traffic plan.
Pimpri-Chinchwad: PCMC Demolishes 1,500+ Illegal Structures
In other Pune Local Areas news, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal encroachments. In just three days, 682 unauthorised structures were cleared, bringing the total to 1,511 demolished structures and freeing up 33.58 lakh square feet of land.
The operation targeted unauthorised buildings on reserved land in the Chikhali-Kudalwadi area. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh and Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Chaube are overseeing the drive, with 600 police officers and heavy machinery deployed.
The crackdown is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
Pimpri-Chinchwad: Mayor Seeks Alandi’s Inclusion in Metro Corridor
Pimpri Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge has requested the inclusion of Alandi in the proposed Bhakti-Shakti–Mukai Chowk–Wakad–Nashik Phata–Moshi–Chakan Metro corridor. The 45.29-km corridor with 34 stations is currently in the planning stage.
Landge cited Alandi’s religious and historical significance and the large number of pilgrims visiting the town. He has urged authorities to pursue necessary approvals and ensure central funding for the project.
